Architect & interior designer in Oswestry

On the Welsh border with hills to its west, Oswestry serves a wide rural catchment of farmhouses, former rectories and village houses. I work with owners in the town and across the border country.

The houses of Oswestry

The town mixes Victorian commercial wealth with older survivals; the real story is the countryside — longhouses, stone farmhouses and chapels toward the Berwyns, brick granges on the plain. Many have been extended piecemeal over generations and now need one plan to make sense of the accumulation.

How these houses respond in Oswestry

Border farmhouses are often three houses in a trench coat: original core, Victorian wing, 1980s addition. The valuable work is editing — deciding which parts carry the future, and letting the plan flow through all of them as one home.

Architecture and interiors, decided together

The wall you move decides the joinery that fits against it; the window you add decides the colour that works beneath it. Because I design both, decisions in Oswestry houses get made once — plan, light, kitchen, storage, materials and lighting resolved as a single scheme rather than handed between an architect and a decorator six months apart.

Questions from Oswestry owners
Our farmhouse is a patchwork of extensions. Where do we start?

With a measured appraisal of the whole building. Editing an accumulated plan is a specialism here — sometimes removing space serves better than adding it.

Do you work across the Welsh border?

My commercial work has reached as far as Cardiff and Cwmbran; for residential work near the border, ask — geography is rarely the obstacle.
