Architect & interior designer in Llanidloes

Llanidloes stands at the head of the Severn, built around the only surviving half-timbered market hall in Wales. I work with owners of its historic town houses and the hill farms and cottages around it.

The houses of Llanidloes

The 1612 market hall sits at the crossing of the four main streets, surrounded by Georgian and Victorian frontages, chapels and older timber structures. Beyond the town the country rises quickly into the Cambrian hills, with stone farmhouses, chapels and smallholdings in the valleys.

Where the value usually sits in Llanidloes

Hill-town houses are tall, narrow and vertically organised, so the stair is the project. Where light enters, where the kitchen sits in relation to the garden, and whether the top floor becomes the best room in the house are decisions worth far more here than any additional footprint.

Architecture and interiors, decided together

The wall you move decides the joinery that fits against it; the window you add decides the colour that works beneath it. Because I design both, decisions in Llanidloes houses get made once — plan, light, kitchen, storage, materials and lighting resolved as a single scheme rather than handed between an architect and a decorator six months apart.

Questions from Llanidloes owners
Do you work this far into Mid Wales?

Llanidloes is at the outer edge of regular working range and projects here are welcome — a free phone conversation is the sensible way to establish whether it suits both of us.

Our house is tall and narrow. How do you approach that?

In section rather than plan: circulation, light from above, and deciding which floor deserves the living space. It frequently is not the ground floor.

Can you help before we buy a house here?

Yes — a £595 Buyers Consultation includes an accompanied viewing, an expert view of potential and challenges, and a written report before you commit.

My first conversation with you is free. You do not need a finished brief — an outline of the property and what is not working is enough.
