The houses of Berriew

The village centre is a compact group of timber-framed and painted buildings around the church and the bridge, with later brick houses and farmhouses in the surrounding valley. Much of it is listed or within the conservation area, and the collective appearance of the village is carefully protected.

Where the value usually sits in Berriew

In a village this photographed, exterior change is rarely the opportunity. The valuable work is comfort and plan: warmth in thin-walled buildings, kitchens and bathrooms placed where a historic frame will accept them, and storage designed rather than accumulated.
